We had a fantastic week getting to know our students.  We've been continuing our friendship work and today we started to discuss the rights of a child.  

In math this week, we were looking at, "Math About Me".  Students were challenged to write equations for numbers about them, such as adding the digits of a phone number, writing and equation for the year they were born, etc.  We are discussing, what an equation is, what is a sum, what are the different strategies we can use, why does our work look different from one student to another, etc.  We will be working on Place Value in the next little while.

We were both so impressed with the students' "Read to Self" aka "DEAR" time.  They were all able to find a good fit book, find a good spot, and read the whole time.  We will begin partner reading and group reading soon.

For inquiry this week, we were focusing on "What is a Scientist" to see where we are starting from.  We are focussing on skills such as observing, questioning, looking closely, and exploring.  This is part of the "Scientific Method" in the curriculum.  

Our PE classes this week have been around cooperative playing, field games and practicing for our Terry Fox run.  Today the students showed some great perseverance and ran/walked for 6 mins.

June 27 - Final Week of School

 Thanks so much to our amazing students and families for sharing this wonderful year of learning together. Day 1 of Coulee School (June 3)

Today's journey to the coulee was my favourite because I felt so much more calm and relaxed because you all were so calm and relaxed.  I loved sitting silently eating, asking questions, sketching, and I wondered, where are all of the nests?
