We had a fun an successful Terry Fox run with Twelve Mile Coulee School on Friday!  Special thanks for all of the Terry Fox donations, our parent volunteers and to EHS Parent Council for for providing our runners with a snack!

In math this week we have been looking closely at what place value is. We have determined that place value is the position of a digit in a number. For example, the place value of the 2 in the number 3265 is hundreds, i.e. 200. We have also been representing numbers various numbers. Our learners we excited to represent the value of Base Ten blocks through art. They planned and created robots, machines and animals out of Base Ten blocks and added up the total value of their creations.

In science, we have continued to look through the lens of a scientist. We took our leaarning outdoors to collect various leaves in order to use our observations skills to describe what we noticed about our leaves. Some of our findings included that our leaves were, "glossy, dark green, sticky and rough." Our observatrions sparked a varieity of questions such as, "did my leaf get eaten by a caterpillar?" or "What makes a leaf sticky?" We discovered a fabulous app on the Ipads that allowed us to determine the species of the tree our leaves came from and where these trees grow.

In social studies we have been looking at Canada's geography. After colouring and labelling our maps of Canada, the question of why Canada has both provinces and territories came up. Ask your child if they remember the answer! We have also been learning about the importance of a compass rose.
