October 23-27 Nov. 2 - Picture Retakes Nov. 8 - Remembrance Day Assembly (Hosted by our classes) 10:15 start time Nov. 9-14 - CBE-wide Fall Break - no classes Math: We are becoming more familiar with Canadian coins. We can name them, identify the value and add coins.  We are also working on exchanging various amounts of coins to make it easier to count our money in preparation for introducing bills!  Literacy: We have completed our research on our chosen sacred animal in preparation for our Remembrance Day Assembly. Through discussions, we have found connections between the teachings of each sacred animal and the virtues of those have and are currently serving in the military.  Is evaporation a gas? We are currently investigating this question and have conducted an experiment to help us answer this. Sharing some research about war. Sharing information about her family history in the military. Important Dates: Oct. 26 - Fun Lunch Nov. 2 - Picture Retakes Nov. 8 - Remembrance Day Assembly (Hosted by our classes) time TBA likely around 10:30 Nov. 9-14 - CBE-wide Fall Break - no classes  We are wondering if any of our students have a connection to someone who is either currently in the military or is a veteran who could come in to talk to our students and share stories about missions they have been on.   Math - We had a fantastic discussion about the history of money and and why money is used.  We can now identify different Canadian coins and their value and are learning strategies to add coins such as ordering them from greatest to least and counting by 25's, 10's, and 5's.  Literacy - After reading about the Seven Sacred Animals, the students have been researching quick, interesting facts about the animals.  They've also discovered what teaching is associated to the animals and a little bit about their conservation history.  The next step in ...

We hope everyone had a lovely long weekend last weekend! Our Week: Math - We've been learning how to round numbers to the nearest 10 and 100.  It was a difficult concept at first but using a number line really helped and it was also great practicing making and using number lines! Literacy - After reading about the Seven Sacred Animals, the students have been researching quick, interesting facts about the animals.  They've also discovered what teaching is associated to the animals and a little bit about their conservation history.  The next step in their learning is to decide which of the seven animals they would like to study further by using the "Drawer" graphic organizer. Some more photos of Glenbow Ranch Leaf rubbing at Glenbow Ranch For part of our Inquiry of Alberta, we are looking at climate vs weather and what Alberta's climate areas are.  First we had to sort out the difference between the two. While learning about "matter", students had to find a sorting rule for these objects.  Lots of great ideas such as big vs small, inside vs outside, but natural vs manufactured won in the end! We found a perfect graph to connect our math with big numbers and Alberta's population. Ask what your learner noticed and can predict from this graph.  Also, what is the standard form of 4.8M?
