Descriptive Writing: Monster Style
We had a lot fun learning the importance of making our writing clear and descriptive. The teahers started with a very simple description of a monster that our students had to draw.  Our learners were shocked to find out that the monsters they drew were nowhere close to what was expected.  The next steps were to listen to ANOTHER description of a monster (a more detailed one). These drawings were a lot more accurate. Finally, our young writers set of to draw and write thier own desciptive piece.

Reading our monster writing to a partner while the other partner attempts to draw.

Using flyers to make real world connections in math.
Students cut images of food and their costs and ordered them from greatest to least. We also rounded each food item to the nearest dollar. Some of us even added up our food items to find the total cost.
