Week of Dec 18 - 22 What a lovely last week of school before the break! Ms. Paterson and Mrs. Cox want to thank everyone for their generous gifts, cards, treats and hugs!  We wish you all a very happy holiday!  See you in 2024! Our Week: Art Mr. Kelly was in this week and led us in a guided drawing of a Martian landscape.   We also created gnomes using 3D shapes and crafting materials.  Those will come home next week in time for the holidays.  Important Dates: Tonight - Choir Performs at 5:00 Friday 8th - No School - PD Day Our Week: In math this week we had the grade 4 students working with Mrs. Paterson.  They looked more closely at decimals and place value with tenths and hundreds and are beginning addition and subtraction with decimals and regrouping.  Moving forward they are exploring estimation.  The grade 3 students are working with Mrs. Cox on ensuring they all have a strong understanding of 2 and 3 digit addition and subtraction using multiple strategies.  This includes using the algorithm of carrying a ten into the tens column or carrying a hundred into the hundreds column.  As well as regrouping with subtraction where students take a ten from the tens column over to the onces and same with the hundreds moving in to the tens.  This can be a difficult concept so we are ensuring we move slowly and ensure every child is successful in understanding and applying this concept.  We ...

Dates to Remember:  December 08 Professional Learning Day (No School)  Helping Families gifts due on December 15 Families Helping Families Cox/Paterson Can a solution of sugar or salt turn into a solid?  To help us answer this question, we ran an experiment.  We used hot water to help with the evaporation process and sugar or salt to form a solution.  After a few weeks, we concluded that the salt solution did in fact turn into a solid.  As a class, we had a lengthy discussion on why the sugar did not form a solid. As scientists, we agreed that we may not have used enough sugar, or perhaps we used too much water.  The Red River cart was developed by Metis and was made entirely of nonmetallic parts!  Finger-weaving Metis sashes During Metis Week we spent time learning about Metis culture and traditions.
