Week of Jan. 15-19

 Week of January 15-19

Upcoming Dates to Remember:

-Tuesday, January 23- Ms. Paterson's class visits Telus Spark. As Telus Spark doesn't allow us to bring our backpacks, please bring a bagged snack lunch, and water bottle.

-January 22-27 - Lacrosse Residency

-Jan. 29 - Mrs. Cox’s class at Telus Spark - forms will go home Monday.

This week we continued to investigate geometry with a focus on comparing angles. We used right angles (90 degrees) to help us determine whether angles were less than or more than 90 degrees.  The grades 3's and 4's have alsos just started investigating what multiplication is and how it is represented. This would be a great time to start learning, reviewing, and practicing our basic facts at home.

How many equal groups can you make?
How can we represent these equal groups as a multiplication equation? How can we represent this as an addition equation?

Our recent snow has inspired poetry in our class.  We first wrote an "I am snow" poem by brainstorming various strong verbs and words that describe snow.  These poems then prompted us to read and analyze a variety of poems with personification.

The class had a fabulous discussion about examples and non-examples of machines.
Our discussion lead us to a heated debate about whether or not a hammer is a machine.
