Dates to Remember:  March 4 - 7 - Swimming We are still looking for volunteers for swimming for our two classes (especially male volunteers for the boy's change room). Please follow this link if you are available to volunteer and have your police clearance. Swimming Volunteers Ignite - Indi Cars/Geometry challenge Make a course for your Indi car on grid paper, did you have any 90 degree angles, 45 degree angles, parallel lines, is it symmetrical? Outside fun! Our first prototype of our wheel and axle project.  Building devices with 4 wheels.  We have shopping carts, trains, buses, wheelchairs and even a portable toilet. Math: Students are working on expanding their knowledge of multiplication and division while practicing their basic facts to build fluency. Literacy: As we read our fable of choice, we have been making predictions based on the limited information from the story. As we continue to read, our predictions change and strengthen as we gain more informatio...

Important Dates to remember:  Feb 15-16: Teacher Convention- no school Feb 19: Family Day- no school Feb 21 : EHS School Council Meeting - 6:30 PM  This past week, we applied some of our gymnastics skills and did mission impossible!  While we investigate simple machines we have also looked at Alberta in the past and the technology at the time.  We came to learn that the means of transportation slowly changed over time. Did you know that horses are not native to Alberta?  How do you think hoses came to Alberta?  Part of our Valentine's Day celebration was spent surveying our classmates about their favorite chocolate bars. We used tally marks and created a bar graph to record our data. We then used our bar graph to inform us about what chocolate bar is most popular or least popular.  We could also tell how many more or less students liked a certain chocolate bar.

Important Dates: - Teacher's Convention (Thursday, Friday) - Family Day (Next Monday) - Please return swimming forms by Monday Happy Lunar New Year!  Today a student shared red envelopes with everyone.  Thanks so much!  Best wishes for 2024! Gymnastics!  Math: We have been learning about what multiplication is and various strategies we can use when multiplying.   -Making Equal Groups -Skip Counting -Using a Number Line -Using and making Arrays What do you know about Alberta's regions?  After gathering research and documenting our findings we have started to present our learning! We are now experts!  Learning about the Lunar New Year: Science: Our recent experience at Telus Spark has inspired us to inquire about the brilliant Leonardo Da Vinci who was a  painter, engineer, and scientist.  We have been learning the story of how Leonardo's Mona Lisa was stolen and then returned to the L ouvre Museum. We are going to take this information a...

Happy February Everyone! We were discussing why February is a special month and especially this year as it has an extra day! No Upcoming Important Dates Math We have been focussing on multiplication and division strategies.  So far, Mrs. Cox's group is developing a strong understanding of what it means to multiply and divide and how we can make equal groups or share equally.  This week we were using number lines for multiplication and subtraction.  Mrs. Paterson's group is reviewing the strategies and working with multiplying using arrays.   Literacy We've been having a lot of fun with alliterations and now onomatopoeia.  This week we started reading stories about the theft of the Mona Lisa from various perspectives.  Next week we will begin turning this into a comic and adding onomatopoeia to our comics. Inquiry The students have (for the most part) completed their Google Slides all about the Alberta region they chose to study.  We have beg...

Week of January 15-19 Upcoming Dates to Remember:  -Tuesday, January 23- Ms. Paterson's class visits Telus Spark. As Telus Spark doesn't allow us to bring our backpacks, please bring a bagged snack lunch, and water bottle.  -January 22-27 - Lacrosse Residency -Jan. 29 - Mrs. Cox’s class at Telus Spark - forms will go home Monday. This week we continued to investigate geometry with a focus on comparing angles. We used right angles (90 degrees) to help us determine whether angles were less than or more than 90 degrees.  The grades 3's and 4's have alsos just started investigating what multiplication is and how it is represented. This would be a great time to start learning, reviewing, and practicing our basic facts at home.  How many equal groups can you make? How can we represent these equal groups as a multiplication equation? How can we represent this as an addition equation?   Our recent snow has inspired poetry in our class.  We first wro...

Literacy After the break, we have started new reading groups.  This is a targeted literacy time for 30 minutes each day to build phonemic awareness at each child's level.  Some groups are working on understanding long vowel teams, and other more complex morphemes. In writing, we have started a poetry study.  We began by learning about what poetry is, looking at various examples ...
